New York/IBNS-CMEDIA: Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, has started his freshman year at New York University’s Stern School of Business, media reports said.
The 18-year-old was first seen on campus in September following his graduation from Florida’s Oxbridge Academy in May.
Unlike many of his classmates, Barron is not living in a dormitory. Instead, he resides at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan.
According to reports, his mother, Melania Trump, opted to keep him out of the NYU dorms.
On his first day, three NYU security officers confirmed to People magazine that Barron was seen outside the library accompanied by Secret Service agents.
Barron’s choice of college had been a topic of speculation throughout the year.
In August, Donald Trump hinted to the New York Post that Barron would attend a “good” school in New York.
The following month, he confirmed to the Daily Mail that his son had been “accepted to a lot of colleges.”
Melania Trump also discussed her son’s college decision during an interview with Fox News, saying, “I could not say I’m an empty nester. I don’t feel that way.”
She described Barron’s decision to stay in New York as his own: “It was his decision to come here… and live in his home, and I respect that.”
Barron declined an opportunity to serve as an at-large delegate for Florida at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this July, citing “prior commitments” in a statement released by Melania.
“While Barron is honored to have been chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, he regretfully declines to participate due to prior commitments,” she wrote.
Though absent from the convention, Barron made his first campaign rally appearance in support of his father earlier that month.
Melania later revealed to Fox & Friends that her son played a pivotal role in Donald Trump’s campaign.
“He was very vocal” and “knew exactly who his father needs to contact and to talk to,” she said.
A source told People that living in a dorm “isn’t in the stars” for Barron at this stage, noting that he has already started forming his “own political ideas.”
The source added, “It all needs to be monitored.”
With Donald Trump poised to return as the 47th President of the United States, the Trump family is once again under heightened media scrutiny.
Melania, who will reprise her role as First Lady, is reportedly determined to protect Barron from the pressures of public life.
“Whether or not others think he is capable of being on his own, Melania feels it’s better to be around him as much as possible,” an insider noted, adding, “I see that continuing.”
CNN has reported that Melania plans to split her time between New York City and Palm Beach, Florida, once she returns to her role as First Lady.
While she will attend major events and fullfil her duties, she may not reside full-time at the White House.
Throughout Donald Trump’s political career, Melania has devoted herself to raising Barron.
As a source told People, “She is and has been a good sounding board for him [Trump]… Any child in the world spotlight like this would be lucky to have a parent so willing to give her time to help keep his life running smoothly.”
Melania is also focused on ensuring Barron adjusts well to college life, saying she encourages him to make friends while being cautious of potential negativity, particularly on campus. “She wants to encourage him to make friends, be super careful of the haters which can be anywhere—especially on college campuses these days,” an insider shared.
