CMEDIA: Adrien Sala, Manitoba’s Finance Minister announced today that Manitoba once again has the lowest inflation rate in the country according to the monthly report on the Consumer Price Index released July 17 by Statistics Canada.
“Our government’s plan to lower costs is working,” said Sala. “The gas tax holiday has put more money in people’s pockets and lowered inflation here in Manitoba. We know too many people are still feeling squeezed with high interest rates and our government is taking action to keep costs lower for people, whether they are trying to pay their mortgage or buy groceries.”
With its 1.4 percent consumer inflation in June, Manitoba’s inflation was the lowest in Canada for the sixth straight month, remaining well below Canada’s inflation rate of 2.7 percent.
Manitoba’s national average measured by Statistics Canada fared better on a number of commonly purchased goods and services including rent, gasoline, phone services, furniture, recreational equipment and clothing.
With Manitoba Continuing to have the lowest gas prices in Canada, its average retail price for gasoline in Winnipeg for the month of June was 137.1 cents, which is lower than August 2023’s price of 163.3 cents
