QUEBEC/CMEDIA: With reportedly an effort to put an end to Quebec doctors’ pressure tactics, the Legault government is forcing them into a new pay model.
Fines of up to $500,000 per day and double that for repeat offences will be faced by the Doctors or groups of doctors who participate in any “concerted actions”.
To fast-track a special law, Premier François Legault held a special sitting on Friday at The National Assembly.
Aiming to “establish collective responsibility for improving access to medical services and to ensure the continued delivery of those services,” Bill 2 carries over the main principles of Bill 106, while introducing penalties for anyone who “negatively affects access to services or hinders the proper training of medical professionals.”
Besides fines, the government could “reduce doctors’ pay” and impose “disciplinary measures.” It could also withhold dues that are normally transferred to medical federations.
The Legault government is confirming with this special legislation, that part of doctors’ pay will be tied to performance targets exempting doctors aged 65 and over
Opposition parties denounced the move Friday arguing forcing doctors’ hands could lead to disengagement, they warned, and that could hurt patients.
