Asha Bajaj from Canadian Media had an opportunity to discuss with Rajan Sharma some of the valiant features of this celebration.
Following is the excerpt of the interview:
Asha to Rajan: Your passion for Bollywood is obvious in your two-time organizing Bollywood Ki Dhun events. What motivated you to this passion?
Rajan: Having lived outside of India for many years, I personally feel that Bollywood is one such thing that brings all of us South Asians together. It keeps us tied to the motherland and has also made our younger generation interested in our culture and values. It is important to further our culture and what better way to do it than through music and film!
You are organizing a live concert of Bollywood Ki Dhun on 4th August 2022 to celebrate the 93rd birthday of Kishore Kumar. What led you to be a fan of Kishore’s songs?
I grew up listening to Kishore Kumar’s songs and I owe my interest in music to him. His voice had magic and magnetism that can never be replicated. I wanted to pay tribute to this musical legend for many years. Now, on the occasion of Kishore Kumar’s 93rd Birthday, the team behind Bollywood Ki Dhun is very proud to be able to present this tribute to this musical maestro.
Please highlight the main themes of Kishore Kumar’s songs.
The theme of this show is to showcase the many shades of Kishore Kumar and his songs as well as his varied moods. This show will highlight romance, love, friendship, betrayal, sorrow, joy, and happiness.
How do you think you are benefiting the Indian diaspora in Canada with these events?
These musical events really help to bring our community together. Especially after the pandemic, the community needs to be brought back together and we need to share special moments together through which we share our happiness and joy.
What response did you get from the last two events?
The last two events were greatly enjoyed by everyone whether they were young or old. People sang along, enjoyed the musical moments, and even danced on stage!
What are your main plans for organizing this event?
The main plan behind organizing this event is to promote young and emerging talents in North America. We want to provide them with a platform to develop and showcase their talents in front of an audience.
How long would the event be?
The event will be about an hour and twenty minutes long.
Approximately how many participants would be there at this event?
We have a total of ten participants including musicians as well as singers.
