Sichuan/IBNS: A magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Sichuan province of China on Monday which left 13 people dead, media reports said.
The epicenter was monitored at 29.59 degrees north latitude and 102.08 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 16 km, the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.
The epicenter is 39 km away from the county seat of Luding and there are several villages within the 5-km range around the epicenter.
The earthquake occurred amid a lockdown going in the city to tackle the COVID outbreak.
Tremors shook buildings in Chengdu and the neighboring mega-city of Chongqing, leaving roads blocked and cutting telecommunications lines in areas home to more than 10,000 residents, according to CCTV.
