CMEDIA:Disney’s Marvel adventure “Thor: Love and Thunder,” a 2022 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the character Thor, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures has thundered $302 million at the global box office, with a better-than-expected $159 million start overseas.
Overall ticket sales mark a franchise-best start for Marvel’s standalone stories about Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder. It also ranks as the third-best opening weekend of the year, behind “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Jurassic World Dominion.”
It is the sequel to Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the script with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, and stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor alongside Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Waititi, Russell Crowe, and Natalie Portman, Thor attempts to find inner peace failing which he returns to action
Thor had to recruit Valkyrie (Thompson), Korg (Waititi), and Jane Foster (Portman)—who is now the Mighty Thor—to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Bale) from eliminating all gods.
Playing in 47 markets, excluding France, China, and Russia, “Thor” film is internationally the fourth standalone and ranks as the 11th biggest global debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
