CMEDIA: Canadians stuck in Gaza strip Canadians awaiting word on when they can leave the war-torn Gaza Strip by crossing into Egypt due to Rafah border crossing closure.
Affected people had been earlier told by Global Affairs Canada that they may be able to leave “as early as Sunday,” with Rafah border crossing coming to a halt on Saturday amid escalating attacks from Israel.
As of Sunday there has been no update on the evacuation list from the General Authority for Border Crossings in Gaza, as presented on a widely-shared Google spreadsheet.
Global Affairs’ Saturday update made no mention of the day’s developments at the Rafah crossing.
But Israel had offered assurances that Canadians looking to leave the region could do so “in the coming days,” according to a conversation summary between Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu.
Canadians stranded in Gaza were already expressing frustration over their lack of inclusion on the evacuation list so far.
