Ottawa/CMEDIA: Located on the traditional, unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabeg, the Canadian War Museum (CWM) is reportedly one of the world’s most respected museums for the study and understanding of armed conflict, and Canada’s national museum of military history.

Tracing its origins back to 1880, The Museum consisted primarily of a collection of militia artifacts opened at its new location on the LeBreton Flats site in downtown Ottawa on May 8, 2005 marking not only the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe (V-E Day) but also the 125th anniversary of the Museum itself. Since its opening in 2005, the Museum has welcomed approximately 500,000 visitors every year.

Designed to emphasize the human experience of war, The Canadian Experience Galleries present the military history of Canada from earliest times to present day, as well as Canada’s history of honouring and remembrance.

Each gallery highlights defining moments in Canada’s military history and the ways in which past events have shaped the nation.

The new exhibition ‘Last Voices Of The Second World War’

An exhibition developed by the Canadian War Museum and supported by The Royal Canadian Legion, this new exhibition facilitates sharing of experiencing the unforgettable stories and powerful first-person testimonies of the Second World War.

To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the conflict, Last Voices of the Second World War presents powerful new interviews from some of the last surviving veterans of the war, as well as family members.

Using the veterans’ own words, alongside photos and other personal mementoes, this poignant exhibition explores their journey to rebuild their lives and make meaning of their experience. It also sheds new light on the challenges, rewards and legacy of military service.
