Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is reportedly expected to be in Washington on Friday to be part of meetings in D.C. . pushing for greater economic integration across Western Hemisphere and to help shape the U.S. President Joe Biden-backed trade framework for Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity.
With an aim to create more jobs and restore faith in democracy, this program — announced by Biden at the Summit of the Americas in Los Angeles in June 2022 with its theme “Building a Sustainable, Resilient, and Equitable Future” — would target roughly a dozen countries bolster the region’s economic competitiveness.
U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Cohen reportedly says that Canada shares the values of U.S. efforts in trying to champion in the region, and added there would be some interesting announcements at the meeting.
Although Trudeau’s office is not confirming the prime minister’s schedule, Cohen reportedly said Tuesday that he is sure “that the first invitation that was extended, to come to this conference, was extended to Prime Minister Trudeau,” and added,
“It’s very important to President Biden that he be there.”
