California/IBNS-CMEDIA: Apple has acquired Pixelmator, the Lithuanian-based company behind popular image editing apps like Pixelmator, Pixelmator Pro, and Photomator.
Pixelmator, which was founded in 2007, announced the acquisition in a recent blog post, confirming that the deal is subject to regulatory approval.
The company assured users that it currently has no plans to make major changes to its Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, or Photomator apps.
Pixelmator has long developed apps for iOS and macOS, often highlighted by Apple during its product events.
“From the start, Apple has been our inspiration, and we’ve focused on creating products that match their design, ease of use, and performance standards,” Pixelmator stated.
The company expressed excitement about reaching a larger audience.
“It’s remarkable what our small team in Vilnius, Lithuania, has achieved over the years. Now, with Apple, we have the opportunity to reach more creative individuals worldwide and make a greater impact,” Pixelmator shared.
Apple has not commented on the acquisition, in line with its usual policy of silence on acquisitions.
This purchase aligns with Apple’s strategy of acquiring smaller companies rather than making large-scale purchases.
Other recent acquisitions by Apple include the weather app Dark Sky in 2020 and Workflow in 2017.
