Toronto/CMEDIA: Amid reportedly an escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, approximately 60, 000 Canadians are stuck, Global Affairs Canada says.
Global Affairs Canada added how many of them may need help getting out of the region, the department said in a statement.
The department said it has not received any reports of Canadian injuries or deaths in the conflict and added it was uncertainsaid how many of them may need help getting out of the region.
All travel to Iran, Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip has been warned by the department advising Canadians in the Middle East to monitor the news and follow the instructions of local authorities.
Due to the “serious risks” posed by Military strikes and falling debris from the hostilities across the region, the department said that the situation may result in disruptions to transportation and air travel, as well as border closures.
Strikes on Iran’s capital Tehran were first launched by Israel in the early hours of Friday in what it said was an attack targeting Iran’s nuclear and energy sites to prevent the country from building a nuclear weapon.
Iran in retaliation launched hundreds of drones and missiles against Israel, with explosions rocking the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Since the initial attacks, the conflict has escalated.
Israeli strikes have killed more than 200 people in Iran and injured more than 1,200 while In Israel, just over two dozen people have been killed by Iranian strikes, with more than 500 wounded.
