Montreal/CMEDIA: Air Canada’s first direct flight from Toronto to Rio de Janeiro arrived Friday morning, linking Canada to the picturesque seaside city in Brazil.

The service will operate three times a week through March 2026.

A ceremony was held at Toronto Pearson International Airport to mark the occasion.

“We are thrilled to introduce non-stop seasonal service between Toronto and Rio de Janeiro…offering Canadians more opportunities to experience Brazil’s rich culture and stunning landscapes,” Alexandre Lefevre, vice president of network planning at Air Canada has said in a news release“

“With its unparalleled beauty and vibrant energy, Rio is already one of the main gateways for Canadian visitors to Brazil,” said Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur.

Luiz Strauss, executive president of Visit Rio, said an increase in Canadians visiting Rio this year demonstrates the route’s potential.

“Strengthening the air network creates real conditions to expand business opportunities, attract events and deepen relations with strategic markets,” he said.

Alexandre Monteiro, CEO of RIOgaleão Airport, called the route a key step in enhancing air connectivity. “This route brings Brazil even closer to the North American market and strengthens RIOgaleão’s role as a gateway for tourism and business,” he said.

Operating using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, Air Canada’s Rio flights offer Signature Class, Premium Economy and Economy class cabins.

Aeroplan members would have the advantage of free texting onboard, sponsored by Bell.

Proud to offer eligible customers premium services at Toronto Pearson, Air Canada says, including the Air Canada Signature Suite, voted the World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining at this year’s Skytrax Awards, Concierge service, and a Maple Leaf Lounge in the international departures area.
