Toronto/CMEDIA: Ahead of federal election day on April 28 the advance polls are now open for voters to cast an early ballot daily from Fri through Mon from 9 am to 9 pm in each jurisdiction.

Included  in voters requirements are the accepted forms of ID with voter information cards, bank statements, drivers licenses or birth certificates.

Although the deadline to register to vote by mail is Apr 22, people can vote early at any Elections Canada offices any day before April 23, or vote by mail.

According to Elections Canada , once someone applies to vote by mail they cannot vote at advance polls or on election day.

Unlike provincial elections when you can vote at any polling station in your province, during a federal election you must vote at your assigned station.

Registered voters can also search for their advance polling station here or call Elections Canada at 1-800-463-6868.

One can also vote by mail or in person by special ballot at your nearest Elections Canada office until 6 p.m. on April 22.

Those unsure of their registration can check using Elections Canada’s online voter registration service.

Elections Canada also has information for those voting under exceptional circumstances including people who are homeless, serving a prison sentence or living in a long-term care facility.

According to Elections Canada, those wanting to avoid lines, advance polling stations are usually busiest between 10 a.m. and noon and  between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., but traffic typically slows after that.

The agency issues special ballots to Canadians who don’t want to wait until election day or for advance polls.

Numbers released by Elections Canada earlier this month, showed 130,000 Canadians had already voted by special ballot.

Nearly five million people voted at advance polls in the 2019 election, and 5.8 million in the 2021 campaign.
