IBNS-CMEDIA: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were sent to five days of judicial custody on Wednesday for allegedly entering the Jantar Mantar protest site without authorisation.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced the development in a post on X, writing, “Ashu and Saurav have been sent to 5 days judicial custody.”
“Their fault? Unfurling the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar,” he said.
Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dipke added, “Show some guts, @narendramodi. If you’re so determined to crush dissent, have the courage to officially declare an Emergency instead of hiding behind these cowardly tactics.”
Dipke also shared an image purportedly showing the party’s leaders sitting inside the Parliament Street Police Station.
The three CJP leaders were produced before the court of the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM). While Das and Ranka were remanded to judicial custody, Shinde was allowed to leave after signing a peace bond.
Jantar Mantar Loses Designated Protest Site Status
The development comes days after the Delhi Police announced on Monday that Jantar Mantar had been denotified as a designated protest site, according to media reports.
The decision came amid protests and marches in the national capital over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
Following the denotification, the police designated three other locations across Delhi for demonstrations: Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in Shahdara.
Jantar Mantar has served as a prominent venue for political demonstrations and public protests over the years, making the decision to withdraw its designated protest site status significant.
Earlier this year, the CJP staged a prolonged sit-in at Jantar Mantar over the alleged NEET paper leak. The protest reportedly led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The latest development comes as the CJP prepares to resume its agitation at Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
