Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke’s grandmother, Savitribai Shankar Dipke, died at the family’s residence in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district following a prolonged illness. She was 80.
Savitribai passed away in Dipke’s ancestral village of Santuk Pimpri.
Dipke, along with several other CJP leaders, including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, was detained by police after their flight from Mumbai landed in New Delhi.
The leaders had travelled to the national capital to participate in a demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.Meanwhile, the Delhi Police issued a statement addressing the incident, saying that information about Dipke’s grandmother’s death had been conveyed to him.
“Abhijeet Dipke was detained in view of a protest call given by Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar, which was not permitted. During the day, unfortunate information was received regarding the death of the grandmother of Sh Abhijeet Dipke. The information was immediately shared with him with due sensitivity and the known time of the funeral was intimated to him,” the Delhi Police said in a statement, as quoted by India Today.
The police further said that Dipke was offered assistance to travel to his hometown on humanitarian grounds.“He was also offered possible facilitation for his journey to his home town on humanitarian grouds,” the statement added.
