IBNS-CMEDIA: India continued its gold rush in archery as Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav defeated South Korea 158-157 in a thrilling shoot-off to win the compound mixed team gold medal at the Asian Games on Wednesday.
The closely fought final went into a shoot-off, with the Indian pair holding their nerve to edge past their South Korean opponents and claim the gold.
It was India’s second gold medal in compound archery at the ongoing Games.
Chikitha and Sahil had topped the mixed team qualification rankings after scoring 705 and 709 points, respectively, for a combined total of 1,414.
Earlier, the Indian pair defeated Thailand 156-155 to book their place in the final.
The victory also secured India a qualification quota for the compound mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
It was India’s eighth gold medal of the ongoing Asian Games, taking the country’s overall medal tally to 54, including 21 silver and 25 bronze medals.
Earlier on Wednesday, India’s women’s compound archery team comprising Prithika Pradeep, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Chikitha Taniparthi defeated China to win the gold medal.
