IBNS-CMEDIA: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from September 8 to 10, during which he will hold consultations with the country’s leadership on a range of issues.
During his visit to the neighbouring nation, Singh will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Colombo.
He will lead a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of External Affairs.
India and Sri Lanka share deep civilisational ties and a multifaceted partnership, anchored in regional security, defence, economic and trade cooperation, as well as strong people-to-people ties.
The bilateral relationship received further impetus when India assisted Sri Lanka during its economic crisis and extended assistance as one of the first responders in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah in 2025.
The assistance underscored India’s continued commitment to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
Rajnath Singh’s visit to Sri Lanka is expected to further strengthen the traditionally close and friendly bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly in mutually beneficial areas, including maritime cooperation and defence partnership.
