IBNS-CMEDIA: More than 1.75 lakh pilgrims from India are set to embark on the sacred Hajj pilgrimage as the first batch departs on April 18, 2026, marking the beginning of this year’s annual journey to Saudi Arabia.
According to an official statement, a total of 1,75,025 pilgrims will undertake the pilgrimage from multiple embarkation points across the country.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju extended his best wishes to all pilgrims and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, safe, and comfortable Hajj experience.
Key Initiatives for Hajj 2026
Several new measures have been introduced this year to enhance the overall pilgrimage experience:
Digital Support: The Hajj Suvidha App will offer real-time assistance, while smart wristbands will help track and locate pilgrims if needed.
Flexible Travel: A short-duration Hajj option (around 20 days) has been introduced for the first time.
Enhanced Insurance: Each pilgrim will receive insurance coverage of approximately ₹6.25 lakh, ensuring financial and health security.
High-Speed Connectivity: Around 60,000 pilgrims will benefit from high-speed train travel between Makkah and Madinah.
Improved Facilities
Authorities have also implemented:
Strengthened real-time monitoring and grievance redressal systems
Improved medical screening and healthcare support
Better coordination for accommodation and transport
For the first time, hotel-style accommodations in Makkah have been arranged to ensure enhanced comfort for pilgrims. Additionally, airport processes have been streamlined to facilitate hassle-free departures.
Nationwide Operations
Hajj operations will be conducted through 17 embarkation points, including major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Srinagar.
The Government of India emphasized that pilgrim welfare remains its top priority, with close coordination maintained with Saudi authorities to ensure seamless arrangements throughout the pilgrimage.
Pilgrims have been advised to follow all health and travel guidelines for a safe and spiritually fulfilling journey.
