IBNS-CMEDIA: Tech major Apple has introduced Xcode 26.3, unveiling “agentic coding” — a new approach that enables developers to build apps using advanced coding agents such as Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex.
With agentic coding, Xcode operates with greater autonomy toward a developer’s goals — from breaking down complex tasks to making architecture-aware decisions and leveraging built-in development tools.
Building on the intelligence features introduced in Xcode 26, which debuted a redesigned coding assistant for writing and editing Swift code, the latest release expands capabilities by granting coding agents deeper access to Xcode’s functionality.
Agents such as Claude Agent and Codex can now collaborate across the entire development lifecycle, helping developers streamline workflows, iterate faster, and bring ideas to life more efficiently.
The agents can search documentation, explore project file structures, update settings, and visually verify their work by capturing Xcode Previews while iterating through builds and fixes.
“At Apple, our goal is to make tools that put industry-leading technologies directly in developers’ hands so they can build the very best apps,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations. “Agentic coding supercharges productivity and creativity, streamlining the development workflow so developers can focus on innovation.”
Through seamless integration with Claude Agent and Codex, developers can embed advanced AI reasoning directly into their app-building process. The integration combines the power of these agents with Xcode’s native capabilities, offering flexibility to choose the model that best fits a project’s needs.
In addition to built-in integrations, Xcode 26.3 supports the Model Context Protocol — an open standard that allows developers to connect any compatible agent or tool to Xcode.
Xcode 26.3 is available as a release candidate starting today for all members of the Apple Developer Program, with a broader release on the App Store expected soon.
