New Delhi/IBNS-CMEDIA: Premier of British Columbia, Canada, David Eby led a trade mission to India on Monday aimed at deepening its trade relations with the country.
Eby, in his six-day visit to India, aims at promoting the province’s businesses, natural gas, critical minerals, and sustainable wood products, as the province works to diversify trade and create jobs.
He said he plans to meet government and business leaders in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Bengaluru to seek investment from Indian companies as part of the province’s goal of attracting $200 billion over the next decade, as reported by Reuters.
The mission comes as B.C. faces economic pressure from U.S. tariffs, prompting the province to deepen ties with international partners and reduce reliance on the U.S. market.
“With unjustified tariffs from the U.S. impacting B.C. workers and businesses, it’s more important than ever to deepen strategic relationships with international partners,” Eby said earlier in a statement.
“India is a key market for B.C. with enormous opportunities for trade,” Eby higlighted.
According to the statement, British Columbia is seeking new partnerships and investment with India in the sectors of sustainable forestry, clean energy and responsible mining.
The province plans to tap the market of India’s growing demand for clean technology and clean energy.
This visit is part of a broader strategy to expand B.C.’s presence in global markets, especially the West, and diversify its trade relationships, which targets doubling exports to non-U.S. markets over the next decade.
The India visit builds on recent B.C. trade missions to Asia and Europe, which have focused on life sciences, technology, agriculture, forestry, ocean science and sustainability.
