Ottawa/CMEDIA: As part of the latest military assistance package, Canada is buying almost $39 million military aid package for Ukraine announced Friday by Canada’s Defence Minister Anita Anand at a meeting of allies in Europe.
Anita Anand participated in the eleventh meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, hosted by United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III.
At the meeting, Minister Anand announced that Canada is providing a new military aid package for Ukraine including a $34.6 million contribution to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Ukraine Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) Trust Fund to enable the implementation of the NATO CAP fuel material project, which will provide Ukraine with 3.3 million litres of much-needed fuel supplies, today’s news release said.
The Liberal government would also reportedly be buying 40 .50 caliber sniper rifles and ammunition from a Canadian company in Winnipeg, and $2-million worth of 16v radio sets to be used in Leopard 2 tanks, eight of which were donated by the Canadian Army last winter.
The other part of the aid package involves providing Ukraine with modular flotation bridges to enable engineers combat to cross rivers or replace destroyed bridges.
Since the beginning of 2022, Canada has committed over $8 billion in direct financial, military, humanitarian, and other assistance to Ukraine.
