Toronto/CMEDIA: Three new release docs and a new Sept series reportedly announced by Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema will join the growing lineup of exciting films, series and events coming soon to the historic cinema in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood.

A wholly original, self-aware cinematic work,  Zodiac Killer Project (D: Charlie Shackleton | UK, USA | 92 minutes | 2025) in which the  filmmaker Charlie Shackleton tells the story of his abandoned documentary by putting  the true crime boom under the microscope as about the infamous Zodiac Killer, describing beat-by-beat how he imagined it playing out.

His voiceover evokes the unrealized project over vacant Bay Area landscapes, his reenactments and clips from recent true crime hits in real time, offering an object lesson in creative frustration—and a hilarious critique of a genre.

The spellbinding new documentary film from visionary director Albert Serra (Pacification),  Afternoons of Solitude (D: Albert Serra | Spain, France, Portugal | 125 minutes | 2024) turns its gaze on the splendor and brutality of bullfighting in Spain.

Serra intensely follows famed matador Andrés Roca Rey, from the solitude of his hotel room and his preparations to the charged spectacle of the arena and reveals Rey’s profound physical, spiritual, and aesthetic commitment to a centuries-old ritual—one that demands he take part in a timeless duel between man and beast.

Collective Monologue (D: Jessica Sarah Rinland | Argentina, UK | 104 minutes | 2024), unfold the intimate and fragmented moments in a community of zoos and animal rescue centers across Argentina.

As their histories unveil, dedicated workers are seen commiting both day and night to caring for the remaining enclosed animals, fostering a mutual bond that transcends imagined boundaries between human and animal.

The above documentaries join Ghosts of the Sea (D: Virginia Tangvald| Canada | 97 minutes | 2025), The Dating Game (D: Violet Du Feng | USA, UK, Norway| 88 minutes | 2025), Writing Hawa (D: Najiba Noori, Rasul Noori | France, Netherlands, Qatar, Afghanistan | 84 minutes | 2024), Move Ya Body: The Birth of House (D: Elegance Bratton | USA | 92 minutes | 2025), Shari & Lamb Chop (D: Lisa D’Apolito | USA | 92 minutes | 2023) and Sudan, Remember Us (D: Hind Meddeb| France, Tunisia, Qatar | 76 minutes | 2024) as recently announced new release documentaries coming soon to our cinema screen.

As part of the limited series Shakespeare, Sorta  three teen movies with takes on Shakespeare will screen at the cinema in Sept .

Spanning the 90s and early 2000s, these classic teen movie genre entries offer back to school season nostalgia and a rare chance to see these Bard backed titles on the big screen.

The second screening in its series will be 2007’s Paranormal Activity which announces  New series Pillow Fright! a minimalist masterclass in atmosphere and dread that proves that less is often more when it comes to horror films.

This sleepover-themed screening hosted by Pillow Fright! curators Emily Gagne and Danita Steinberg. Come early for karaoke, Ouija Board sessions, and a ghost story competition invites you and your bravest friends are invited.
